How to size jewelry by hand (rings, bracelets, necklaces)

Sizing is the #1 reason people return jewelry. It shouldn't be — you can get it right at home with five minutes and a piece of string. Here's how.

Rings

Two methods. Either way: measure at the end of the day when your fingers are at their largest. Avoid measuring when your hands are cold or first thing in the morning.

Method 1: Existing ring. If you have a ring that fits the finger you want to wear NORA on, measure the inside diameter with a ruler. Convert with this rough guide:

  • 15.7 mm = US 5 / EU 50
  • 16.5 mm = US 6 / EU 52
  • 17.3 mm = US 7 / EU 54
  • 18.1 mm = US 8 / EU 57
  • 19.0 mm = US 9 / EU 59

Method 2: String. Wrap a thin strip of paper or piece of string around the base of your finger. Mark where it overlaps. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimeters — this is your finger's circumference. Divide by π (3.14) for the diameter, then use the chart above.

If you're between sizes, size up. Easier to wear a slightly loose ring than to fight a tight one.

Bracelets

Wrap a piece of string snugly around your wrist where you want the bracelet to sit. Measure the length. Add about 1.5 cm for a comfortable fit (more if you like a looser drape).

Most NORA bracelets are adjustable, but if you're choosing a fixed-length style, pay attention to chain weight: heavier chains sit lower, lighter chains stay closer to where you measured.

Necklaces

The easiest way: look in a mirror and decide where you want the pendant to sit on your chest. Then measure the distance from the back of your neck to that point — that's roughly the chain length you need. Common positions:

  • Choker — 35–40 cm (sits at the base of the throat)
  • Princess — 45 cm (just below the collarbone, most popular)
  • Matinee — 50–60 cm (rests on the chest)
  • Opera — 70–80 cm (drapes well below the chest, layerable)

Layering

If you're stacking necklaces, choose lengths 5+ cm apart so they don't tangle. Same logic for bracelets — vary the chain styles (thin + heavy + chain + bead) so they sit differently and don't slide into each other.
